Ibtihaj Muhammad captured the world’s attention while making history as the first American Muslim hijabi fencer to medal at the Olympics.

So not surprising, Muhammad made her New York Fashion Week debut showcasing her Fall 2018 Louella line Monday at the Museum of the City of New York.

“Ibtihaj is a fierce athlete who handles herself with style and grace,” said Rabab Abdalla, CEO of MAARKAH: New York Modest Fashion Show. “I knew she would be able to translate those qualities into clothing that were equally fashionable and commercially competitive.”

Abdalla was right.

Muhammad’s line is filled with bold patterns offering both powerful and balancing colors. At the show, each model was dressed in long, flowy looks against softer dusty pink, tan, floral and paisley designs. Her line also included floor-length maxi dresses and sleeveless separates that would appeal to both the Muslim fashion market and her sports fan base.

“Fashionable, flexible and functional,” Muhammad said, describing her clothing brand. “You can wear Louella anywhere, look great and feel comfortable because of the gorgeous prints and loose silhouettes.”
